Scientist have found that the oldest figurative art in the world is a cave painting found in Borneo Jungle. It is more than 40,000 years old. The images is pained with iron oxide and depicts wild cattle.
The cave also contains recent painting of human figures that are 13,000 to 20,000 year old and ancient hand stencils. The discovery was announced in the Journal Nature. The drawing were first discovered in 1994. Earlier the ivory figurines of animals and humans carved in Germany was believed to be the oldest figurative art.
The oldest works of art that we will consider are the cave paintings found in Chauvet Cave in southeastern France. These paintings, discovered in 1994, date from c. 30,000 bce and thus are placed in the Old Stone Age (Upper Paleolithic Period)
