The thermohaline circling is affected by the melting of Greenland ice sheets because freshwater is added to the Atlantic ocean, this will in-turn affect the salinity of the water because it will decrease.
As a result, the water will become less dense, hence, the thermohaline circulation cannot be formed because the water cannot sink below.
