I would say that the on sentence that is not good in supporting this example paragraph is C: Around Campus, everyone is talking about the movies based on Tolkien's trilogy.
That is the only sentence in which the reader can understand that absolutely everybody loves and admires Tolkien's work. In that sentence, nobody seems to think his work is not good, it doesn't seem to be any exception to the rule or the general thinking. On the other hand, A, B and D explain how most people like Tolkien's work, except for somebody who doesn't. In A, the best friend, in B, the literature professor, and in D, the critics.
You would not want to talk about other subjects in your topic, focus solely on math and science when writing your evidence or supporting detail.
